Animal rescue center needs help raising funds

Pontotoc County Animal Rescue and Shelter is looking to raise about $200,000 in order to build a shelter and help save animals in need of a home, according to a recent report from WTVA News.

Katie Jackson, the president of the Pontotoc County Animal Rescue and Shelter, spoke about the needs of the animal rescue community and what the funds would likely go toward.

"We've looked at purchasing an old factory or something that is already there, but one of the benefits from starting from scratch is we can build it how we need it," Jackson told the news source. "For instance, an old furniture factory or old building is not really set up for something like this."

According to the Humane Society, there are more than 93 million cats and 77 million dogs who have homes throughout the United States. Animal rescue workers help to care for abandoned pets as well as lost animals who have not been able to find their homes. Those interested in welcoming a new pet should seek out a local shelter or rescue organization, where they can also receive information on spaying and neutering.
