Great Britain's Prince Harry traveled to Tete Province where he observed HALO deminers working at the Nhamchenje Minefield, an eleven mile mine belt laid by the Portuguese in 1972 to protect the Cahora Bassa Dam. Although these mines placed there thirty years ago, they continue to have a devastating impact on the ten villages that straddle this unfenced mine belt. Families are forced to live within close proximity of an estimated 30,000 mines, preventing farmers from planting crops and safely grazing livestock.
