Four years ago this October, my husband was out getting wood for the woodstove on a cold, wet, blustery Saturday. Driving down a quiet back road, he saw what looked like a drowned rat on the side of the road. He stopped, and realized it was a very tiny kitten. He called me, to ask if I wanted it. I said "Are you HIGH? Get it!". He warned me if it started to run, he wouldn't chase.

Next phone call, he said he had bad news. I asked if the kitten had run away, and he said no, it started stumbling towards him and was easy to pick up. (Odd sense of humor, that man...)

He had the kitten in the truck. The kitten had found the heater and stayed in front of it the whole way home - to be greeted by mumma hugs, some food, water, and a warm bath. And he took to his mini litter box immediately. He was just skin and bones - couldn't even tell if he was a Louie or a Lucie.

At the vet the next day, he weighed .8 lbs. But he found the right place to come to to fatten up! Now, Louie is a huge lunkhead who keeps me smiling every day.

Someone threw away a treasure. And a few years later, Lucie came into our life as well to keep him company!
