I named my rescue dog Toby from the movie Twister many years ago. In the beginning of the movie, the little girl is being carried to the storm shelter during a tornado and she is screaming over and over "Toby, Toby, Toby" because the parents are not even thinking about the dog at this point. I remember thinking, if they forget this dog, I am walking out of this movie. But he runs after them through the wind, etc and makes it just in time.

I remember thinking that they rescued him and in a way my dog rescued me. I had just lost my previous dog to cancer a few weeks before that and I could not even look at someone else walking their dog, much less my getting one. It was just too soon. When I started getting that ache in my heart for another dog, my best friend in Dallas took me to the SPCA. When I walked in the door, the first dog I saw was Toby - he stood in his kennel wagging his tail at everyone that walked by. I then zeroed in on a puppy across the room. And as I sat on the floor playing with the puppy I kept looking back at this dog, he would just never give up, he knew someone would take him home. I decided then that if he was never going to give up on finding love, neither would I. End of story. He had been abused by some man in a wheelchair. That is all they would/could tell me. He was 8 months old. He is now 8 years old and my best little friend.

We will never give up on each other because that is what love is all about. Thank you for letting me share my story.
