Matilda and Her Fur-Ever Home
Although I already had rescue dog named Camden, I wanted another puppy. On PetFinder.com, I entered the criteria of black, female, young dog. (I wanted a black dog because they are less frequently rescued). I hit search and Matilda popped up immediately. What I did not know was all the hard work that had gone on prior to my approval for adoption.
Michelle (Georgia Humane Society in Atlanta, Georgia, USA) rescued 4 week old Matilda and her 2 sisters from a high-kill shelter. Within days, Michelle and her mother, Donna, realized all 3 puppies were sick. Indeed, the puppies had Parvovirus. One sister died, while Matilda got very sick and even contracted ringworm. But, Matilda fought hard and survived to end up in a fur-ever home.
Once I was approved to bring Matilda home, Michelle found me a non-profit transport company to bring my new puppy to Maryland. On October 2, at 2:30am, I picked up Matilda. At the pick up site, there were about 6 other families also rescuing dogs of all ages. It was very emotional; I had cried all the way there in anticipation. After her 2 day journey on the transport, I finally had her in my arms. She fell asleep within 15 minutes.
After a long week of Camden hiding in the shower or outright ignoring her, the two finally fell asleep on my bed together. Now, 4 months later, my two puppies are inseparable. Camden protects Matilda at the dog park and she returns the favor by constantly pestering him. I thank Michelle and Donna everyday for taking care of Matilda and allowing Matilda to rescue me.

The Animal Rescue Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need — providing food and vital care for some of the eight million unwanted animals given to shelters every year in the U.S., as well as animals in desperate need around the world. Over four million animals are put to death each year in the U.S. alone because they are abandoned and unwanted.
Each click on the purple "Click Here to Give — it's FREE!" button at The Animal Rescue Site provides food and care for a rescued animal in need. Funding for food and care is paid by site sponsors and distributed to animals in need by The Fund for Animals, the Petfinder Foundation, North Shore Animal League, International Fund for Animal Welfare, and other worthy animal rescue organizations supported by the GreaterGood.org foundation.
In addition to clicking the purple "Click Here to Give - it's FREE" button, visitors can help more by shopping in The Animal Rescue Site store. With each item purchased, shoppers generate funds for the feeding and care of animals in shelters and sanctuaries.
