Just over ten years ago I found my boy behind bars. I was 11 at the time and a sad child. Being made fun of at school had turned me cold.
One morning my mother told me we could go looking for a puppy like I had asked for years. As I looked at the sadness in so many little eyes staring at me in the shelter, I saw kindness and unconditional love out of one set.
A ruset little puppy with an injured back was the owner the those amazing carmel eyes. My mother told me no I could not get "Scruffy" because he would grow to be too big for what she wanted in the house. I was heartbroken. For days I couldn't eat or sleep my mind only on that little Red Heeler.
My mom took me to another shelter to look at the adoptions in hope I'd like another much smaller dog. But as I turned the corner into the adoption center these carmel eyes were staring at me. "Scruffy" brightened as he recognized me and his whole demeanor changed instantly. You could tell he had been just as heartbroken as I, when I walked away before.
After and hour in a half of begging and proving that fate was there and couldn't be messed with I finally watched my mother sign her name on the dotted line to get my puppy. At 3 months old "Scruffy" became Clyde and he got his forever home.
Clyde is now almost 11 years old and he still shows his thanks for bring him home every day. My life changed after he showed me to forgive and to be happy. Clyde and I both gave each other a new start. Amazing, One Broken Scruffy Boy changed my world.
