A few years ago, I had to have a beloved 19 year old cat put to sleep as she was so ill. I was too devastated to get another cat for about a year and a half. I started becoming very cranky and weepy and my daughter told me it was time for me to get another kitty. We went to a local shelter and after seeing two beautiful cats which would have been unsuitable because of shedding problems and the shelter getting ready to close, I started crying. The shelter tech told me she thought she had just the cat for me. She took me into their office and there sitting on the windowsill was my darling Sophie, who hopped onto the desk, rolled onto her back to have her belly patted and then jumped right into the cat carrier. Sophie has brought me joy you couldn't believe and I consider her my very best friend. How I love that dear little soul.
