We found an empty duffel bag and a dish of food at the park one afternoon, but saw no sign of the animals that had obviously been abandoned. Three days later, my boyfriend found a lone black kitten stretched out at the edge of the parking lot. He scooped him up, took him home, and Otis (Mr. Pitiful) became the ruler of the house. Two years later at a park across town, we found a box of kittens and their mother dumped in the bushes off of the path. Again, we took them all home, and managed to find homes for all but one little black kitten. Today, our herd of cats numbers 4, and Otis and his shadow, Pippin, still love to play and occasionally curl up together for a nap.
