New bio-bank to help in the fight against breast cancer

Sanford Health recently announced that they are starting a new biogenetic bank in order to help find a cure for breast cancer, according to the Argus Leader.

Becky Nelson, the senior vice president at Sanford, explained that the new bio-bank is "a room with a really big freezer with 20,000 or 30,000 samples with smart people in the room to extract DNA and RNA from the tubes to study it, analyze it and store it."

With this information, scientists may be able to find a cure, and bring some positive breast cancer health news to the millions who are affected in one way or another from the disease, the media outlet reports.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will eventually be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lives. It is recommended that once a woman turns 40 year old, she should get a yearly mammogram to ensure that if she does have the disease, that it is caught at its earliest stage.
