While getting ready for work one morning, I found a lump in my left breast while putting on my bra. The lump was big, and it wasn’t there the day before. My nurse practitioner said, “It’s nothing to worry about; cancer can’t grow that fast.” I was only 34. And she was so wrong. My 2.9 cm tumor grew another 1.5 cm in the two weeks between my biopsy and surgery. I’m more than 2 years out from surgery, chemo and radiation, and feel lucky to be alive. The love and support of doctors and nurses, and family and friends (including the four-legged variety), helped me get through. Trust yourself. Advocate for yourself. And share your stories with other women. They could save a life one day.
