Saving Mimi
Second Hand Purrs recently took in a cat that was left on a doorstep with a note that they couldn’t take care of her anymore. Mimi is a sweet calico cat not even a year old. Unfortunately she was rushed to the emergency room immediately after she was in our care with a very high fever. She was kept overnight and it was determined she required an emergency spay to save her life due to an infection called Pyometra. We proceeded with the surgery in an effort to save her. Mimi was released from the hospital the following Sunday afternoon but returned to emergency care three more times that week with an ongoing fever. At this point the mounting medical bills hit our shelter hard. As a no kill shelter we know what we wanted to do, but were faced with the reality of low funds. But the answer was clear, we needed to keep fighting. So we started an online fundraiser to rally our supporters to help us fight for this precious life. Within minutes of sending out a mass email blast, people responded. The wave of support could be felt instantly! Our philosophy is every life is valuable and we will defend and fight for each one that crosses our path. Our supporters make it possible to put our beliefs into action and the support was overwhelming. Within the first two days we made over $2000 and the support kept coming in. Mimi not only needed monetary donations, she needed our energy to fight. We believe she received both and is the reason why she has pulled through and will be available for adoption soon. Mimi received over $3500 and for our tiny little shelter this was a huge success in which we are extremely grateful for.

The Animal Rescue Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need: providing food for some of the eight million companion animals relinquished to shelters in the U.S. every year. Over 10 million animals put to death in the U.S. because they have been abandoned. Funding for food and care is paid by site sponsors and distributed to animals in need at the Fund for Animals' renowned animal sanctuaries (including Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Texas and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in California), pet shelters supported by the Petfinder Foundation, North Shore Animal League, and other worthy animal care facilities supported by the GreaterGood.org foundation. In addition to clicking the purple "Click Here to Give - it's FREE" button, visitors can help more by shopping in The Animal Rescue Site store.
