It's a bright new year, and a fresh chance for you to help The Animal Rescue Site choose which eligible Petfinder.com animal rescue organizations will receive grants to help animals in need! It's easy:
· Select your Country and (if U.S. or Canada) State/Province.
· Optional fields accept partial (but not misspelled/inaccurate) information.
· You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization.

Having trouble finding your favorite Petfinder.com rescue organization?
Please double-check your spelling to make sure it's correct and matches your organization's exact name. If you're not sure, use just part of their name, spelled correctly. It'll turn up!
Try refreshing your browser's page. Sometimes browsers "cache" pages. This does not normally interfere with functionality, but if your search is "stuck," try clicking the refresh button in your browser to reload the page and searching again.
Note that "optional" fields are not required for your search, and that they accept partial information. For example, you could enter "Lon" instead of "London" in the "City" field, and "Fluff" or "Farm" instead of "Fluffy's Famous Farm For Family Furballs" in the "Shelter Name" Field.
Since U.S. Territories, such as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, are part of the international category, they can now be found using the Country dropdown rather than the U.S. state dropdown.
Remember that, to be eligible, the rescue organization must be a registered member of Petfinder.com!

How long is the Challenge, and how can we increase our chances?
This voting round begins on January 9, 2012, and ends at midnight (PT) on March 18, 2012. There will be other voting rounds throughout the year - more chances for your organization to win! The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! Your favorite rescue organization is counting on you!
What kind of grant could my shelter win?
Seventy (70) grants will be awarded for a total of $75,000 to eligible Petfinder.com members during the very first voting round of the 2012 Challenge. The grand prize will go to the eligible Petfinder.com organization with the highest accumulative votes for the duration of the Challenge as specified in the rules.
The Prizes Are:
Grand Prize: One $5,000 grant!
Dark Horse Grand Prize: One $2,000 grant!
Dark Horse Runners Up: Five $1,000 grants.
State Winners*: Fifty-one $1,000 state grants
(50 U.S. states and Washington D.C.)
Canadian Winners*: One $1,000 grant will be awarded.
International Winner*: One $1,000 grant will be awarded.
Weekly Winners* Ten $1,000 grants will be awarded, one for each week of this voting round of the Shelter+ Challenge.
Under the rules of the 2012 Shelter+ Challenge:
· No group may win more than one Grand Prize in 2012. Winners of the Grand Prize are not eligible for state or regional grants during the same voting round, but are eligible for all other prizes. Regional prizes may not be won during two consecutive voting rounds by a single organization; they are now limited to a maximum of two prizes during non-consecutive voting rounds per group per year.
· Weekly Winners are not eligible for Regional (State, Canadian, or International) awards during the same voting round. Weekly Winners are not excluded from Grand prizes and Special prizes.
*The Petfinder.com organization with the most votes from each U.S. state, one in Washington D.C., one in Canada, and one organization located internationally will receive a grant of $1,000 at the end of the current voting round of the Challenge. Winners of the Grand Prize and of Weekly Prizes are not eligible for state or regional grants during the same voting round — the award will go to the next eligible organization with the highest accumulative votes as specified in the rules.
**Each weekly voting period begins on a Monday and ends at midnight PT the following Sunday. Participants are eligible for only one weekly prize during each voting round of the Challenge. Winners of a weekly prize are no longer eligible for regional (State, Canada, and International) prizes during the same voting round. Winning a weekly prize does not prevent an organization from receiving the Grand Prize — so keep voting!
