Most Heartwarming Story Prize!
Participating Petfinder.com member organizations can post their stories on The Animal Rescue Site. One story submitted during each month of the Challenge will be chosen by The Animal Rescue Site to win a new prize: Most Heartwarming Story.
The purpose of the Most Heartwarming Story Contest is to highlight the wonderful work done by rescue groups and shelters in finding forever homes for pets. We want to hear your success stories: how you found a home for a pet, how a volunteer came through to be a foster family, how an animal found love with a new owner, or some other appropriate story with a happy, heartwarming ending.
To be eligible, your story must be submitted by a representative of your organization. One original story per month per organization, please (resubmitting the same story over and over again will not improve your chances). Be sure to include the exact shelter name as registered with Petfinder.com, as well as the state or province and hometown of your shelter or rescue organization. (If outside the U.S. and Canada, please list your country too!)
Please keep in mind that we are hoping to highlight the wonderful work you do in a way that is acceptable to our audience. Stories that contain graphic descriptions of pain, abuse, injury, or neglect are not appropriate for this contest and will be removed from the site. Share your story today, and your shelter could win a $2,000 grant to help animals!

Give some facts about how many pets you help every year and be sure to add information about ways people can help you: pet food drives, how to make a donation directly to your organization, where to find information on Petfinder.com about adoptable pets, etc.]
The Animal Rescue Site is a "Click to Give" website. You can click on a button to help fund food and care for animals. It's free, and only takes a second of your time. Click every day!
Petfinder.com is an online, searchable database of animals that need homes, and a directory of approximately 13,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Looking for other ways to involve your local media or community? Invite a photographer to take pictures of the pets up for adoption and make sure copies are sent to your local newspaper. Some shelters took pictures of people or pets clicking on a computer keyboard to send to the media. Many papers can take high resolution jpgs (300 dpi) via e-mail; check their websites for an editor's name or other contacts. Perhaps a volunteer can make a YouTube video and post a link on your site (this is an excellent project for high school or college students wanting to help). This can then be shared by your supporters via their e-mail or websites.
Remember, The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com lasts from May 17th through August 22nd, 2010. Check back in with your local media and supporters throughout the Challenge. Make this an opportunity to discuss the ongoing needs of your organization and heighten awareness of what you do in your community.
Thank you, and don't forget to click to help rescued animals every day!
