Care for a Shelter Animal with Special Needs

Fund a week's care for an animal in a special-needs shelter.
We love reading your stories of rescued animals -- animals whose courageous, cheerful spirits inspire us. So many of your stories are about animals overcoming adversity: injury, illness, abuse. These are the stories that move us most; these are the animals that need a little extra from us to thrive as they were always meant to.
A few animal shelters around the United States take in animals with special needs. Their residents include dogs who need wheeled harnesses in order to move around, blind horses, cats with feline leukemia, and so many others. The beautiful thing about animals with special needs is that they do not know they are disabled. With some extra attention and, in some cases, thoughtful devices, they can live as fully as any other animal.
You can help! Just $15.00 covers one week's care for an animal with special needs. Expenses might include medications for diabetes, feline leukemia, and other illnesses; orthopedic gear; even veterinary surgery.
$15.00 a week is an average cost. Some animals' expenses will be much higher, while others' will be somewhat lower. We have used the most conservative figures from the special-needs shelters we are working with, so that we can always overdeliver. Your donation will fund at least one week's care for an animal, and most likely a little bit more.
GreaterGood.org makes grants to several different special-needs shelters around the United States. We're always searching for more worthy charities to fund -- so if you know of a special-needs animal shelter that deserves some help, drop us a line and let us know!
Report from the Field
Recently, Home For Life wrote in to us to share a success story thanks to your help:
This winter we took in a paraplegic dog from Thailand, a street dog named White. He was emaciated with several terrible pressure sores, and had no adoption prospects. He has been living in a cage at a vet clinic for over a year. Funds from the Greater Good grant enabled Home for Life to provide the vet care and buy White a new cart which fit him properly to allow him to heal and thrive.
